Dreadful, bad. e.g. "That is so bud" as in something that is really crap. Very big in the eighties in Swindon, England, (ed: if you've ever been to Swindon you'll know why I left that comment in!). Possibly derived from 'bad'.

Mark elaborated on this somewhat with the following:

The word did originate in Swindow around 1978 by kids from the Haydon Wick/Greenmeadow area of North Swindon. It actually derives from 'bod' as in the children's tv programme, Bod. Example: 'You're fucking bod'. This eventually metamorphosed into 'bud'. This was peculiar to my age group at the time, ages from 11 - 14.

Other examples of usage are: 'He's a bud kid'; 'this is so fucking bud'; 'what a bud place' and 'I hate school, it's so bud'.

WHen Mark was 25, he was amazed to hear kids as young a 9, saying it. As far as he knows, people still use it in the Haydon Wick/Greenmeadow/Moredon/Rodbourne Cheney areas - aging from schoolchildren to grown ups of 40. It has permeated out to other areas of Swindon as well.

Similar to "get lost" and "piss off", means "go away", with connotations of "you are not wanted here".

Mysterious disease or ailment transmitted to you by getting to close to someone who was dirty or smelly, and that you could in turn transmit to other people by touching them. e.g. if you got too close to someone who was dirty you then had 'the bugs'. People who were particularly dirty were called either 'bugsy boy' or 'bugsy girl'.

Note. You could protect yourself from the bugs by clutching the top of your arm (I'd imagine this came from holding the area where you had your inoculation jab) and shouting, '1,2,3,4,5 bugs injection all over for life'. This was a primary school practise and died out by the time you got to secondary school.

Pug ugly - usuallt referring to girls or women. Used in phrases such as "She's got a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp" or "She has a face like a bulldog licking piss off a thistle.".

Lie, untruth, gross exageration, attempt to misrepresent.

To have no specific purpose or destination, e.g. "I'm going to bum around Europe for a while and then eventually make my way to Prague for the summer."
