When I was a bachelor

When I was a bachelor
I lived by myself
And all the bread and cheese I got
I put upon the shelf

The rats and mice abounded
And led me such a life
That I went to London
To get myself a wife

The streets they were so broad
And the lanes they were so narrow
I couldn't get my wife home
Without my wheelbarrow.

The wheelbarrow broke
My wife go got a fall
Down went the wheelbarrow
Little wife and all.
