double dutch

n.

(1) variation on skipping rope in which two turners held two ropes flying in opposite directions for one or more jumpers. Rhymes were generally sung and occasionally required the jumpers to perform various tasks as they were jumping, such as touching their toes, turning around, running in or out of the ropes, etc. Generally more common in lower-class and inner cities, almost never played by boys. Some minor recognition as a sport in the late 1980's.

(2) UK term to describe someone whose spoken or written comments are complete non-sensical gibberish. e.g. "You are talking Double Dutch !"
