In answer to the above, Mike DiCola sent the following answer:

In the Disney TV version of the series which featured Fess Parker as Davy Crockett, Buddy Ebsen played his partner/friend/sidekick Georgie Russell.

Given that most people's image of DC (at least those of us who watched TV in the 60's) derives from the Disney TV show, I suspect this is the "Georgie" named as Davy's ever- present companion in the song lyrics.
